Yes, we too would like to know what kind of surgery your mom had. Thanks for writing it up on this site.
A week ago Friday I fell and tore the cartilage loose on a left rib. It is sore. I have to wear a tight band around my ribcage and remember to breathe deeply every so often. I slipped and fell on some ice. Gene teases me and says that the cookies were not hurt; they fell into a snowbank. We were headed for a party.
We have had snow cover for about 2 weeks now with two snow falls. Today it warmed up and some of it melted. The children came in just soaked from recess, but happy they could go out to play. They had not had recess since the first snowfall because of the VERY low temperatures. But maybe soon we will see the ground! I know all of you in Alaska do not see the ground all winter. But this is the longest we have had a snow cover for quite a while.
We wish all of you a very merry Christmas. I was remiss in getting cards sent out. I apologize for that. What with the rib and our kitchen torn apart for remodeling, I just seem to be disorganized. But we wish you our best. Good to hear from you when you post on this site.

Thank you for letting us know about her.
You have a Merry Christmas!

Mom called while I was in class tonight. Rusty talked to her and she was crying while she was relating that she went to the eye doctor today and received some very bad news. Her eye sight has deteriorated so much that the doctor told her that she can no longer drive. He also told her that it will not be too long that she will not be able to live by herself. The not being able to drive didn't bother her as much as not being able to have a place of her own. She is very distraught and we need to help her come up with a solution to her dilema. We all knew this was coming but I personally didn't expect it this soon. Some how we need to get our heads together to help her.
Praying for a solution,
Isabel

Well, it has been a while since I even checked this site. Shame on me! I have been inundated with school - going to school, teaching school, studying for my master's, which consumes all free time. This fall is the most intensive of all projects and assignments so I have not lacked for something to do. It will continue through the end of January and then will let up some until I graduate in April with a Masters of Education - Curriculum and Instruction.
I am also on a quad team of teachers at high school that works with 9th graders who are below proficiency in reading and math skills. I have 2 classes full of these kids and they are challenging all my teaching skills and anything I thought I knew about managing kids. Can you imagine having a class of 28 kids, with 10-15 of them who cannot stay in their seats for more than 5-10 minutes without getting up, or talking, or something. I never saw this many 14-15 year olds in one class who had an attention span of a 5 year old. Enough of my whimpering! Needless to say, I am learning a lot this year!
Our Wed and Thanksgiving was spent with a dying church family member and then beginning funeral memorial service plans for the family. This wonderful saintly woman passed away at 6:18 yesterday morning from cancer. She was only 50 years old (my age). We waited with the family as she breathed her last. We had Morgan and Angela and another of Morgan's teens for dinner around 1:00, then spent the afternoon working on the funeral arrangements, etc. because Dale flew home to Canada late last night to be with his Mom and Dad who are both not well. He could not change his flight to get out of Alaska (with airmiles) at a different time, so went through with it and made arrangments for the former pastor to help with the funeral. Morgan, Angela, and I will all take part too. Angela and I are planning the music part and Morgan will take more of Dale's part in leading it.
Dale's mom has been in the hospital 4 times since August. Both his parents have congestive heart failure and are getting weaker and more frail all the time.
Our weather has turned colder (between 5 and 25 degrees) and we have received about 18 inches of snow in the past week. It is absolutely gorgeous now. Snow-covered trees everywhere and no wind to blow it off so far. BEAUTIFUL! I love the northland, the snow, and can't wait to get out in it to cross-country ski and snowshoe soon. Last Christmas I bought Dale and I snow shoes so we could enjoy it off the trails. I found it is fun, but a lot of work in deep snow. It is great exercise.
Blaine and Angela are both doing well in school at the Univ. of Alaska Anchorage. Blaine is beginning as an engineering major and if you weren't aware, Angela has a Bachelor's in Music Ministry, but feels like God is leading her to become a nurse practitioner, so she has entered a nursing program. They bring us much joy and we feel blessed to have them close to us.
Angela is a blessing at our church with her music and also helps Morgan with youth ministry. The teen girls love her. Blaine plays the drums at church and helps Morgan with the youth also. He has a new girlfriend named Jenny. She also attends our church. Blaine recently played the drums at the Alaska Men's Retreat for a weekend. He receives lots of compliments on his drumming and is beginning to be more in demand by people outside our church. He is a born, natural drummer and I am constantly amazed at his ability to come up with new rhythms.
We were blessed to have Harvey and Nancy and kids at our home for a weekend in October. That was really cool - they even got to go to church with us and we celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving together. We get two Thanksgivings every year! Now on to Christmas!!!
It is nice to chat with you all. Thanks to all of you who sent me well-wishes for my 50th birthday! I had some really crazy things done to me- that's a different story for another time. I have never received more than 50 roses before. That was a whole garden!
You all will continue to be in our prayers and I trust you will continue to be strengthend physically as you heal - David, Sissy, Harvey, and Izzy.
Love and Blessings to my family,
Frankie

Just in case you would like to see, pictures of Gene are shown in the list of vintage motorcross racing champions for 2005. Go to AHRMA.org. Click on "Events & results" on side. Click on "Vintage Motocross" at top. Scroll down to "Lumberjack Vintage MX Series." Click on "AHRMA Northwest MX website". Click on "Champs" at side. Scroll down to +60 Novice. See pictures of Gene as the champion in his class! He is so excited! He goes down to Sacramento, CA in January to receive his trophy. His goal this past year was to finish each race, no matter in which place. He had fun running in sand, mud up to the axles, up and down hills, and across pastures. He races two motorcycles, a 1974 360MX Yamaha, and a 1972 Husqvarna 250CR. Both he has rebuilt, and knows all the parts intimately. I am pit crew, not a rider. I wear his colors, get him to the line in time, cheer, and take pictures. We meet some interesting people on those weekends, some younger and some older than we are. We will bring pictures and stories next June, God willing.

The storm hit the southern part of the state. Last night however there were quite a few tornados spotted in Indiana. There was not much damage however. Thank the Lord.
My foot is almost healed up now after the injury in July. I am so glad. I still have problems with swelling in that foot so I have to wear the medical support hose for a while yet.
Sarah and Zack are doing well in language school in Costa Rica. We have an internet phone connection so we talk to them frequently by computer. It is so nice.
We remain busy here at Union Bible College. Rusty is on his last stage of his Master's degree in business. He is starting his thesis. He is writing it on starting a holiness Bible college in the country of Chile.
Have a great day.

The storm was on the western part of the state and not at all near us. Our weather has been very warm in the last week or so, in 70's in the day time. But it is supposed to get a bit colder tonight.
Patti and I are doing well. I still deal with side effects of the procedure, which will persist for some time. Otherwise, I am getting along, day by day.
Blessings to all,
Berdena

Well, it is time to go down to San Diego to watch Garrison's graduation from Marine Corps boot camp. You can see him in his platoon if you log on to www.devildogs.info, then go to "recruit videos", then to platoon #1113. Turn up the volume on your computer for full effect. He is the ninth one on the top row. They all have a look of sameness about them. That is planned. He has done pretty well I think, from his letters and the phone call he had. (He could not contact his folks because they were out of the house at the time, so he called Grandma Dena & Papa to verify that someone would be there to pick him up and bring him home for 10 days.) People tell us that the graduating ceremony is very impressive. So we will take the video camera and still camera, and cheer him on for the PT's, and probably mop up tears. Gene remembers a lot of that, but he says some things have changed since Viet Nam.
We are in the middle of remodeling the kitchen, having just torn out the drywall, ceiling, and insulation. Gene has to replace and update wiring and plumbing when we get back. The carpenter will be coming to work on windows and drywall soon after. Cabinets will not be here probably until about Thanksgiving or after. I do not know about the rest. Meanwhile, we are cooking on microwave, crockpot, and electric fryingpan. The table is in the living room. Drawers are in the sewing room, basement, and office. So fixing dinner means running back and forth, upstairs and down.
I lost control of the garden and canning. We just use what we can until it freezes. The fall is gorgeous here right now! Leaves are bright gold and yellow or shades of orange and red. Grass is still green. The irrigation water will soon be turned off for the season. Nights are frosty and days are warm to nippy. It is just the best season of the year. We look forward to next year, Lord willing, so we can enjoy it without having obligations that take us away from being out in it, fishing, camping, hiking, gardening, just gazing at the golden aspens running up the canyons in the South Hills like fire!
But school is intensive. Radiators never quit. Some customers have heard that Gene is going to retire and want guarantees that he will fix theirs. But God is good. We both are well (except for sore muscles.) I am enjoying reading the Psalms over and over. New Living Translation makes them ever new, clear, and exciting to read, giving insights I had not noticed before.
It is late and school tomorrow. Better turn in. Love you all, naming you to the Father, and looking forward to seeing you next June, Berdena

Just a note to stay in touch. Fall is in the air here in Kentucky. Leaves are just starting to turn, but we have not had any very cold weather yet.
Lurinda, I rejoice that you are home and recovering. You, Paul and the children are in my daily prayers for strength and restoration.
Harvey, brother, I pray daily for your shoulder to be healed.
Linda, you are also in my prayers for recovery from the fall.
I also pray daily for my own healing, which is in the Lord's hands at this point. I am learning how to cope with side effects that will persist for months. But I get along and am trusting the Lord through the process.
Patti, Amie, and C2 are doing well. Lori is enjoying the first grade.
Frankly, I do think of all of you more because of this web site, which I try to remember to check from time to time. That helps me pray for you. If I have missed a current prayer need, please know that it is due to my lack of knowledge. Let us know your requests and I will lift them up to the Father.
May you all know the Lord's full blessings today,
Berdena

Thanks, C2, for getting this running for us. I can't wait to put some pics on, but my grad studies are calling tonight, planning for worship Sunday and we go to our church family camp this weekend. Angela and I are planning the music for that too. Guess we're keeping so busy that we stay out of trouble. I spoke with Sis a couple times this week. She sounds really good on the phone and is so excited to be home. We have a lot to be thankful for.
I'll post some pics soon.

Great job CII !!! Everything looks fantastic.
Homer and I went down to see Lurinda and Paul yesterday. She looks great. She still has a long ways to go, but she has come a long ways also. She has some memory and balance problems, but they will hopefully correct with time. Her biggest complaint is her eyesight. She is having great difficulty seeing. She sees an eye specialist next week in Charleston. Hopefully they will be able to help her.

Alrighty, everything's up and going! We're on the new server, and I've installed a photo gallery for the family to use. I went ahead and posted a few pics from the last reunion that I had in my collection just get us started. You can view the entire gallery and leave comments for pictures without registering. If you want to post images yourself, simply register and you'll be good to go!
I opted for installing a good, free gallery software package instead of programming my own because this one has a lot of good features that would take me forever to program, and because I don't know when I would have had time to fit the programming into my full schedule. So, to cut to the chase, this package has lots of cool features, like even being able to order prints of the photos through photoaccess.com! So anyone can get prints of anyone else's photos that they like! (Don't post any photos that you're not honestly willing to share!)
The registration and setup process should be pretty straightforward, but email me if you have any questions!

GOOD NEWS! Lurinda is coming home on Monday. Paul and Billy are bringing her home. It will like 2 days being 3 months that she has been in the hospital. Mom Fiskeaux has been up at our house this week and will go back on Monday. Probably she will go stay with Lurinda on Tuesday if Paul needs her to be there.

Thanks to those of you whose contributions I've received so far! We're now only $20 shy of the $104.35 goal, but I have to go ahead and renew the site using the new photo-capable webhost this weekend since this past year's hosting will expire soon. Even after we switch over to the new host, I will have to program all of the photo upload capabilities before they will be available, but this is the crucial first step!
If just a couple more of you can send in a few bucks, we can get the rest of the hosting charge taken care of. Thanks!

I just returned from moose hunting with James Barefoot and my three sons. Michael(17) shot a big caribou and a big bull moose. Now we have plenty of meat for winter. Joe(10) and Ben(8) had a great time camping but we were not able to get a kill for them. Proud of my boys. I'll post a photo when our site is updated for that.
I was able to catch up on the news and wish to express love and care for Patti with the loss of her dad. Patti, our prayers are with you and we love you deeply. Rest in the arms of Jesus.
For the rest of you, I sincerely care about your physical injuries and hurts. Of greater concern to me are those suffering emotional stress and pain. You are remembered in our prayers. HE loves us!
Dena, thanks for the comment about the cadaver patch in my shoulder. It doesn't matter either way. I just wanted to see if I could get a reaction.
Bless you all!

Mom called tonight. Paul had called her to say the doctor told him he would probably take out the stitches tomorrow from the reconstruction. He said when the doctor talks to him to tell him how it went, he is going to ask him if she may come home next week. She is making good sense and asking when she may come home. She is tired of being down there.
Ed had an appointment for the doctor to check his knee. The doctor told him he has repaired knees much better than Ed's. It needs to be replaced now. But Ed told him he cannot take the time for it now. He wants the shots like Mom had to form a pad in the knee. So the doc gave him pain killers and scheduled the shots. He said he can only give the series twice. Ed really needs to schedule the surgery. Mom thought maybe he would have a slack time before many months to do it.
She said she is doing well and asked about us. Gene's Aunt Eva died night before last of congenital lung failure and a broken hip. She was a great lady and loved the Lord. We will miss her. Gene and I are staying here to take care of his Dad while his sister takes their Mom down to Whittier, CA for the funeral.
Take care. I have been re-reading Job from New Living Translation. There is a lot our family can relate to. God is Good! Love you, Berdena

Hi, Renee! It is good to hear from you. Did you get much bad weather from Hurricane Katrina?
Gene and I would appreciate your prayers for him as he drives his mother down to see her sister. Aunt Eva has only days to live. She has congestive lung failure, lungs filling constantly with fluid and she cannot breathe much. They said last night she might not make it. She had her son call this morning to have Grace come down if possible. So Gene is driving her down in the morning. It takes about 14 hours. The highways will be pretty congested with holiday traffic, and gas prices high. But she needs to go. Thanks for your prayers!

Yep, there is an ongoing cost for having this website. It's only $15 / year for what we already have, but it costs more to upgrade to be able to add photo capabilities to the site. The total for a year's hosting for a site with space and capabilities for uploading pictures will be $104.35. We're already more than halfway there, so if y'all could send me $5 or $10 each, then I'll post here to let everyone know when we have enough.
Thanks, all!

Patti, we too join you in prayer for the Lord's comfort for you and your family.
Frankie, I like the Fiskeaux Family idea. And it would be great to see pictures of your hike.
Charlie and Harvey, you continue to be in our prayers.
CII, Is there an on-going cost for this site? If so, we should be contributing to a fund to help. I appreciate all your work to make this happen. Thank you!
It is so good to have touch with family in a format such as this.
Ed, thank you for your part in keeping this going. I look forward to evenings when I usually check the site and touch family from way out here in Idaho.

Thank you all for your prayers. My dad was ready, even longing, to go home. He kept his sense of humor up to the last. When they put him in the ambulance to take him to the hospital last Tuesday, the technician asked him if he was allergic to anything. Dad said, "Yes! I'm allergic to ambulances!"
I got to be with him Friday night for a couple of hours. It was hard to see him having such a terrible time breathing. It took all his strength to get the next breath. I was ready to release him. Please keep my mom in your prayers. She is 86 and very frail. She is still sharp though. She says it all doesn't seem real yet. We rest in the Lord's care.

Patti,
Homer and I are very sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad, but know that time does help heal all pain and you know that you will see him again one day.
I received an e-mail from CII yesterday regarding this web site. It is time to renew and upgrade this site if we want to add pictures. David and CII have been footing the bill for this site as it is, but to upgrade so that we could put pictures on the site is more expensive. Eddie has contributed more than his share for the upgrade; therefore, the rest of us need to cough up $5.00 each and send to CII. His address can be found on this website under Charlie David. Please send to him as soon as possible. It would be nice to have pictures for us all to see.
In addition, those of you who have not sent the $37.50 for the charge for the building at the reunion, please do so as soon as you can (if you intend to help cover the cost). Homer and I paid the full amount and are asking to be reimbursed before next year, if possible.
Thanks!
Linda

Hi everyone,
I have been reading but haven't taken time to post any news in a while. I have been busy with my ongoing graduate studies and now I am back in school with teacher inservice. Students return next Tuesday. Our school union has voted to strike so that may be happening if we don't settle for a contract between teachers and school district within the next few weeks. Between church life, home life, school life (work and going to school), I have to stay pretty disciplined to keep it in balance. I should be done with a Masters in Education (Curriculum & Instruction) by April of next year. It has been a long time since I studied to be a teacher and this program has been good for me to update my teaching knowledge and skills. I really enjoy teaching high school math and the high school where I teach is a very good school to teach in in this school district. I feel really blessed and it is obvious that God has kept me there for my 3rd year.
I had a great time hiking the Crow Pass this July. Eleven women from my church did it together over a 3-day weekend. We hiked 26 miles over a mountain pass (the way up was pretty tough with a 40 lb. pack on my back). Actually going down is hard on the quads and knees. The scenery was awesome - glaciers, ice fields, streams, waterfalls, mountains, valleys, we forded a river (waist high and swift and so icy it was numbing), lots of streams and creeks, saw no bear. Had a great time bonding together and helping one another. I enjoyed it very much and will definitely do it again. Getting myself into shape was very good for me. I just went through a yearly physical with lots of tests and I am in good shape - nothing wrong so far. I am still waiting on a bone density test result since that is the only negative report I have ever had so far in my life. I know that with age my time is coming, but right now I am working on preventative maintenance as God gives me strength. I am truly grateful and am praying for all of the physical needs in our family.
I have to leave for worship practice for this weekend, so I will close off for now. Patti, I am sorry to hear about your dad's passing. We will be praying for you and your family.
Thanks, everyone, for keeping in touch. This is one of the blessings we are receiving because of Sissy's suffering.
I love you all very much. We are family.
Dena,
I really don't care for the part about Fiskeaux pride. It has been a negative thing in my life at times and doesn't conjure up happy feelings. I would rather have a slogan about being a family of Fiskeauxs. I will work on a slogan idea if I can.
Gotta go for now.
Love,
Frankie

Patti, we were very sorry to hear of the passing of your father. You will certainly be in our prayers during this difficult time.
Sarah and Zack left the 23rd of August for Costa Rica. They are adjusting well to the new surroundings and are getting settled in their language studies. Here is an example of one of their experiences there.
"One of the things we did yesterday was eat at a really nice Tico restaurant. It was all decorated so that it reminded us of a Tico Cracker Barrel (without the store), if you can imagine that. While we were there, a couple of performers came up to our table with guitars.
They were awesome! One of the men makes guitars and they gave us directions to a store where we can purchase a guitar for well under $100. The man that made guitars was an incredible musician. He did a routine where he showed us everything a guitar can do. He made it sound like bongo drums, a snare drum, a Hawaiian guitar, etc. Then he
started playing classical style, and played with the guitar behind his head, played with his teeth & tongue, sat down and used his foot on the fingerboard, and then sat down on the floor with the guitar for a stool and continued to play it between his legs while keeping time
with his feet and moving in a circle!!!!"
Sis, we were glad to hear that you are improving. I talked to Mom this morning and she was so excited to have been able to talk to you on the phone the other day. We continue to remember you in our prayers.
I really enjoy this web site. It really helps us keep up with each other. I check it regularly even though I do not submit messages very often. I really appreciate the way Dena and Linda keep us informed. Thanks!

Just a note to let everyone that I am getting along. Having done all that we can do, we now continue to wait on the Lord to complete my healing. However, I do have to deal with side effects in the urinary system, which will persist for 6 to 18 months. I go in every 3 months for a checkup, with my next appointment in October.
Additionally, Patti's dad went home to be in the presence of Jesus last Saturday morning early. He was 84 and ready and longing to go. So it is a bittersweet time. But I am sure that Patti would appreciate an interest in your prayers for the Lord's healing presence at this time.
Thanks for your prayers.

Harvey, my little brother, you still make me laugh! That patch was a gift to you. It is yours. And it will go wherever you go. You know God sanctified your spirit, not necessarily your body. Otherwise you would not have fallen and broken it. Do sanctified bodies break? Does sanctifying mean unbreakable? Answers only mean more questions?! Argh! I can see your spirit is strong as ever. Praise the Lord!

Hi folks,
I'm fine. I keep up with the chat room. It's good. Thank you Linda and Dena for the constant news. You are all in my prayers, especially those suffering injury.
I'm thankful to God for His blessings on all of us. Without Him we would really be in a mess. My shoulder is still frozen and I return to the Doc. September 20th. I'm sure he will release me to begin therapy. He is holding me back lest I tear the patch loose in my joint. That would require more surgery. It feels funny having someone's dead skin in my shoulder.
Now a question for the theologians. When the rapture comes, will the other persons skin be taken, resurrected or left behind? I plan to go be with the Lord. Does it become a part of me even though it was taken from another person? What do you think? Is the patch sanctifyed by my faith? What about a person with a heart transplant? Does it matter?
I love all of you.
Harvey

Talked to Mom this afternoon. She said since they placed the tube in to let the incision drain, there had been hardly any more new fluid. She was better this morning. Paul was encouraged after the scare they had on Saturday. They told him that perhaps soon she could go back to rehab for a week or so, then home.
You know the injections Mom has had for her knee? She has only one more to go. She says it hurts less, but does hurt sometimes for a while. Overall it is better than before. She is glad she went this way instead of surgery.
I asked about Harvey. Mom said he would like to have more aggressive therapy. The shoulder still hurts, but somewhat less than before. He is having a little movement. Would like to hear more from him.
Garrison has written a few letters from Marine boot camp at MCRD. It is hard work, but he is managing. Sometimes he even likes the drills. We can tell from his letters that he is homesick. He asked us to please keep writing to him. He found he could see the friends he signed up with if they go to chapel. They can sit together and visit for a little while. He said the services are a lot like his church at home, Calvary Chapel. His friend has lost about 20 lbs, but he hadn't. He may have gained.
What do you think about this for a shirt slogan? "Proud to be Fiskeaux"
Send me your ideas. Love you, Berdena

Billy found out that the place on his Mom's head where the skull was replaced had fluid built up on top of it. They put a drain tube in her scalp and said she was doing fine. Don't know how long the tube will have to stay in.

Grandma just called and said that Paul came home from work and found a note on the table from his daughter telling him that the hospital had called and Lurinda had gotten worse. They had moved her from the rehab place back to the hospital in Charleston. Paul tried calling, but they would not tell him anything because he didn't have a code. He kept telling them he was her husband, but they still wouldn't tell him anything. So, he was showering and leaving tonight to go down.
Just pray a little harder.

You are right, Berdena, God has been good to all of us! We do seem to pray a lot more when we are in trouble! That's part of the reason God allows it, I think. He wants us to depend on Him.
I think the shirts are a great idea! A polo shirt is one kind of shirt that looks good on both men and women, and a teal or aqua is a color that is said to look good with every skin and hair color!
Glad you are doing better, Linda.
GOd bless.

Linda, I was thinking about all the things that have happened to us this year. It would be easy to say it feels like the "sky is falling", but look at how most of those things are working out. We are like a large group testimony to the power of God in our real world where all kinds of bad things happen to good people. And there has been more praying this year collectively that any other year I can remember. I was recounting some of the things that happened in our family, and a teacher I work with said that we are at least a living testimony to the miracles of modern medicine. Gene says that every Fiskeaux should go sit in the corner and not leave the house. It is all very humbling to me. We are blessed I think! All of us are aging. When something happens to one of us, it makes me think forward to the days I have left. Then each one seems like a gift. I have wondered at times if we are like Job; God is letting us experience some discomfort to turn us closer to Him. Or to show what metal we are really made of. I'm still glad to be Fiskeaux! And glad to be a Believer!
Okay, I'm through being philosophical. You know we were going to design a shirt for the next reunion? Well, we are getting closer. Does anyone have an idea for a classy design? What color do you prefer? Type of shirt, etc. I believe Paul was going to judge the designs and I will take orders. Get back to me on this.
Love you all, Berdena

MORE NEWS!
Lurinda had surgery on Saturday to replace the portion of her skull which was removed. Billy said that went well. She should be transferred back to the rehab place today (Monday).
Ed has hurt his knee getting off of his motorcycle. (Gene, you need to give lessons!) Ed sees the doctor tomorrow (Tuesday). He feels like that due to the pins already in his knee, that he will have to have a knee replacement.
I don't think that 2005 has been the best of years for the Fiskeaux family!!

I don't know how many of you have called home, but just wanted to let everyone know that Mom Fiskeaux was told by the ortho doctor that she did not need knee surgery at the present time. She is taking a series of three shots to put lubricant into the knee. (She has had one so far). She said that it did help until she dragged her dog home from the neighbors yesterday. Seems he went visiting and she walked down to get him twice and then drug him all the way home on the second visit. She said that her knee is now popping again, but hopefully with some rest it will get better.

Hello to all! I'm slowly improving. The doctor just says that it will take longer for the swelling to go down since my internal organs were so bruised from the fall. I plan on trying to go back to work for at least half days next week and I'll take it from there. The State of NC is finally getting ready to pass a budget, so my job is really hectic right now and I need to be there.
I talked with Grandma today. She had the MRI yesterday but still does not know the results. I find it interesting that the doctor told her that she needed a total knee replacement before ever doing an MRI. Maybe she will find out more next week.
She had talked with Paul. Lurinda had an MRI done and it turned out well. They are in the process of getting ready to reconstruct her skull, but he didn't have an exact date as to when that would be done. Hopefully soon.
I know that no one likes the idea of Grandma going to the nursing home after surgery, but they will do physical therapy with her everyday and that will be a plus on her side. We can all pray that she will recover quickly. I still want to go down when she sees the orthopedic doctor. I think he will be able to give more information that the GP which she has been seeing.
Donna's surgery went well. They replaced the cornea tissue transplant with another. It will be several weeks before we know if it takes. She has the most stitiches in her eye that she has ever had from any surgery, but she handles it well.
Love and Prayers,
Linda

I am not familiar with the chronological devotional Bible from Guideposts. My opinion is that it is more important that one read the Bible devotionally, than that one use a particular translation.

I called Mom today for an address. Her doctor wants to do the surgery right away while she is well in all other ways. He wants to keep her in the hospital for about a week, then send her to Lila Doyle Nursing Home for 2 or 3 more weeks. She will know more details on Thursday, when she goes for the results of the MRI to be read. With such a large family, it seems that one of us could stay with her or have her come with them to care for her. Since I will be leaving in the morning for Chehalis, Washington for one of Gene's races, I asked her to call one of you to put the exact plans on our chat room. we plan to be back about noon on Tuesday the 16th.
She had talked to Paul and Sis. Sis is walking by herself with the walker. She carried on a meaningful conversation with Mom both giving comments and asking questions. Mom felt encouraged. Paul said he felt the therapies were having good effects on her. He can see change.
Mom had talked to Linda. She had Homer help her into the hot tub a couple times. That really helped relax her back. She is still very sore. And Mom understood that Donna was going back to Atlanta for another procedure. But she did not know exactly what.
Frankie, how did the hike go? We would love to hear all about it!
Charlie, have you heard anything about the new chronological devotional Bible that Guideposts is advertising? What does your theology dept. think about it? It sounded interesting. Love to all, Berdena

On another subject:
I wonder if Mark's Hannah could go stay with Grandma when she has her knee surgery? She could be a big help. She won't be able to get around on her own for a while. Just a thought!
Anyone have a word on Lurinda?

Just wanted to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I'm definitely sore, but very thankful that I didn't break anything (except for my pride!] As the doctor said, the fall probably saved my life. I'm very lucky that the aneurysm did not burst when I fell. Right now it's at 3.5 centimeters and they tell me that they won't do anything other than monitor it until it gets to 4 centimeters. So, I guess I'll just have to have catscans a couple time a year to keep it monitored. I go back to the doctor on Wednesday and maybe I'll know more.
I can say one thing - I don't plan on getting on a ladder anytime soon again!
Love,
Linda

Mom told me yesterday evening that Linda is home with a walker. She can barely get around without help.
I had called to let her know we are Great Grandparents! Jake and Misti had a baby girl Thursday evening, Destiny Michele Lawson. She is 6 lbs, 6 oz. and has a head full of dark hair. Misti is okay. Destiny tried to come feet first and she had to have caesarean (sp). Lori and Joe are thrilled and trying to plan a time to go see her. Jake, Misti, and Destiny live in Arkansas.
Also I called to let her know Garrison's address. In case you had not heard, He is a Marine Recruit at San Diego's MCRD. He would appreciate letters from family. Here is his address as given in the letter:
REC HERZINGER, GARRISON D.
1ST RTBN CHARLIE CO/PLT 1113
40002 MIDWAY AVENUE
SAN DIEGO, CA 92140-1113
It was written in all caps like that. He cannot receive anything but letters. He is scheduled to graduate the end of October if all goes well.

I just have to let you all know about the amazing miracle God has performed on my sister-in-law today. She went down to IU Med Center in Indianapolis today to have a biopsy on her lungs. In the past months she had several cat scans and then a pet scan to check for cancer and they showed several nodules in her lungs. And they told her in the last one that there had been significant growth in the one lung. They were going to take a biopsy of the mass in the lower part of her right lung. They hesitated because she has emphesema and has only 14% use of her lungs and they felt it would be such high risk. So they took another cat scan this morning before the biopsy and the mass was gone. She told the doctors that she had been praying that it would be gone and he said "He must have been listerning to you because it is gone." A lot of people had been praying for herThey are going to keep and eye on the nodules to see if there is any growth but we are trusting God to continue His wonderful miracle working power. We were all in tears praising God and was about to shout. I thought this would be an encouragement to all of you with what is going on in your family and in many other families.
The kids were really upset about all this going on with their Mom, having lost their father, Bobbie Lee, two years ago, they weren't ready to loose their Mom.
I don't know why we should be so surprised at GOD'S POWER. He is an awesome God desiring us to rest in Him and trust Him with our lives whatever the situation. I am still praying for all of you that I keep reading about on your website. I really enjoy hearing about the family and I hesitated to write on you family website but I felt I had to be obedient to God's leading and I wanted to give Him the praise that is due Him.
Love and Prayers,
Your Cousin and Sister in Christ, Mary Ruth

Talked to Mom today. Linda is in the hospital ! She was helping Homer work on the shed when she reached for something and fell about 6 feet. Homer called the ambulance because she couldn't move. The hospital says no bones are broken, but she is incredibly sore and receiving physical therapy for that. Also they found she has a small aneurism on her aorta ! They will watch it and possibly do something later, but nothing now. I asked Mom why in the world it did not burst when she fell so hard. Possibly it formed then. We do not know. Mark had stopped by to see Linda on their way north and found her just gone to the hospital.
Also little Jake, Daniel's oldest, has no eardrum. He has had several infections and it is gone. The surgeon will build him one next week. Incredible! Two more in this family who need our prayers today.
Paul talked to Mom and says the therapists are working with Sis on her knees. I guess they were straight for so long they do not want to bend to let her walk easily. She does not have much appetite. When they bring her meals, she eats the vegetables and dessert, not much else. She does not like meats or breads at all. So they give her energy supplement drinks to make up for it until she has more appetite. She discovered she has no hair and it bothers her. I got the pattern for comfort caps and have made one, a white one of eyelet that the sewing shop suggested would be cool. Gene says it looks like a Quaker bonnet! Right now I am knitting one of that new eyelash yarn of copper color to look like hair. It is very soft. I should have it done by tomorrow. Then I will make a couple more sewn ones of bright flashy colors. They are really very easy to make. Hope to have them sent off by first of next week.
Sounds like Gene is not the only one on a dirt bike lately. Ed and Zack are also riding them. Wear helmets, guys!
Hope you have a cool place to relax in this heat - 3 digits here! Berdena

I agree with Berdena that it would be great if Linda could go with Mom to the
doctor to ask some questions and help her make arrangements for the surgery.
How I wish I were closer. I would love to take care of Mom. My distance
however,makes it rather difficult.
When we were at Mom's the later part of July, I talked with her about the
computer situation. She expressed to me that she would rather be able to call
on the phone than use a computer. I think she would appreciate more phone
cards than a computer. She needs the voice contact. She also looks forward
to Ed bringing her by the copies from his computer on Mondays. She needs
the personal touch that a computer does not give. She gets so lonely and
hearing our voices is better for her than just reading our letters on the computer
frequently. Anyway, that is my two bits.
Does Sis have a phone in her room now? If so, what is it?
Prayerfully,
Isabel

Hi everyone. First, know that all of you are in our prayers for health and healing. God has been so gracious to us.
As for me, I have a doctors appointment August 9th and should know if I can begin agressive therapy on my shoulder. It is still frozen and weak. I have a therapist here in Nome who will help me. I am simply trusting the Lord in all of this.
Nancy and I just returned from Fiarbanks where we participated in the memorial service for Betty McPeak. Many of you will remember the McPeak family from Hoquioum, WA back in the 60's. They now live in Fairbanks and we have had good fellowship with them. Most of the children were there and I got to help Dr. Rick McPeak, my 7th grade buddy, do the service.
Linda, your check will be in the mail. Have no fear! We are praying and trusting the Lord for sissy's complete healing. Blessings on everyone and good night.

I talked with Grandma again last night and suggested that she think about having the surgery (if it's definitely required) now so that she would be up and going when Lurinda comes home. She will need her more then than she does now. Grandma said she had not thought of it that way. My concern is who is going to be her caregiver after the surgery. She will not be able to stay by herself for a few weeks at least.

Linda, I think that would be great. She has put it off because she has misgivings, mostly about being down while Sis is down. But if the doctor decides to do it, someone needs to ask important questions. I really would appreciate if you or Homer would go with her.

Well, I took Donna back to Emory yesterday and we did not get good news. She will be having surgery again on August 9th, so keep her in your prayers. Seems that the cornea tissue transplant has "melted" and now she has a hole in her eye again. If this surgery doesn't work, then she will have to have the first tube removed and she will be back to square one. We definitely don't want that to happen.
What do you guys think about my going with Grandma to her next doctor's visit regarding the knee surgery? I think someone needs to talk with the doctor about how her sugar will affect this surgery and the healing process.
Let me know,
Linda

Talked to Mom last evening when we got back from retreat in Eastern Idaho. Sis had a bad day. She has been transferred to a care facility 35 miles from the hospital. Mom said they took her there because it has better doctors that her surgeon trusts. He does not want to send her to Anderson. She fell and bruised both knees. (We do not know why someone was not holding her while she walked.) They took her back to the hospital.
Today when I talked to Mom, she said they gave her more medicine. They think she may have had a seizure. Her doctor said it is very common that patients have seizures while they recuperate. Then they go away. But for now she needs medication. They stabilized her and sent her back to the care facility. Today Sis had a good day. Mom talked to her and had a good conversation. Sis had lots of physical therapy and was tired. They have her walk to her meals and go for all her needs. The doctor said she needs to be strong before he does the reconstruction surgery.
Mom had a doctor's appointment for her knee that is swollen and sore. He told her that is is worn out and needs replacement. She told him she does not want to do it now while Sis is in the hospital. He gave her a prescription for a month. Then he wants her to have the surgery. She will need to stay with someone just after that. But she did not want to make plans before she HAS to think about it.
It was good to have a weekend away at women's spiritual retreat. Gene was the camp handiman. He enjoyed it and was well-fed. He got to ride the Honda when not needed. Now I need to be thinking about going back to school, planning bulletin boards.

Good morning from Alaska. It's a clear, cool Friday morning (50 F.) and I meet with 11 other ladies from our church to drive to Girdwood, Alaska (1.5 hrs. south) to begin a 3-day hike over a 26-mile mountain pass called Crow Creek Pass. It ends at the Eagle River Nature Center 12 miles from our house. It is our annual ladies "Wilderness Women" adventure and this is my first time to join in. I have a 45-lb. backpack to carry my stuff in. There are NO, I mean NO amenities. I am so excited I could hardly sleep last night. Please pray for safety for our trip as we return on Monday. We should see a lot of bear, moose, Dall sheep, glaciers, ford a glacier-fed, icy-cold river (no bridge), see water falls, and hike over some very awesome and beautiful scenery. If you would like to check out this trail with pictures, do a google search for "Crow Creek Pass Hike". I will definitely have pics when I am done. Thanks for your prayers for our safety.
I am so glad to hear some good news about Sissy and I will check in again when I return Monday.
Love to all of my family,

I am improving by the day in adjusting to post-surgery. However, some of my systems still need a bit more regulating. But that will come with time.
The doctors say that the radiation will take from 6 months to 2 years to complete its work. I have a checkup every three months for the first year and then every 6 months for the second year. After that, checkups are annually. All I can do at this point is to pray for the Lord to complete the healing that is in process. I do covet an interest in your prayers on my behalf for complete healing .
Blessings to all,
Linda

Ok, Fiskeaux kids. I'm sending out a bill to help pay for the meeting rooms and kitchen for next year's reunion. I just wrote out a check to Oconee State Park and mailed to Mom Fiskeaux in the amount of $375.38. It would really be great if each of you could mail Homer or myself a check for $37.50 to help refill this hole in our checking account. I did not know it was going to be this much until after Mom Fiskeaux had booked the site. But it will be worth it to have a nice cool place to visit.
Our address is: 323 Billy Cove Road, Sylva, NC 28779.
Thanks!

Just talked to Paul. Sis was asleep. They have taken the feeding tube out. She walked the length of the room this morning during her exercise. She is getting stronger. She seems confused at times, but mostly answers questions directly, and asks about some of us. He also told me that the doctor may have her wear a helmet for awhile before they reconstruct the skull. He seems to think that operation is not a big deal. Paul said that sometimews her sense of humor is back. Her memory goes in and out, but is better each day.
When I asked about him, he told me that for the first time he gets to read books. Sometimes he gets fidgety and has to go for a walk. It is better for him while she has a room. He can be with her all the time and help with some things. But when she sleeps in the evening the time drags on slowly. He appreciates when anyone calls. And he tells Sis.

I talked with Paul last night and he said that Lurinda is improving a little each day. Physical and Occupational Therapy are working hard with her now. He also said that the nurse talked with him yesterday and that they may be moving her back to Anderson Hospital for a period of time for recovery. That way it would make it easier on the family. He asked if it was safe to do so and they said she was past the critical stage now and that Anderson should be able to take care of her until it's time to replace her skull. She was eating something for the first time yesterday. She still has the feeding tube in, but they may remove it by the end of the week.
Take care,

Thanks to everyone for praying for me. Yesterday, the radioactive seeds were implanted. It was an outpatient procedure and I came home around noon. Of course, it has taken a bit of time to recover from the general anesthesia. One does not get over general anesthesia just by waking up. But the breathing tube in my throat caused more discomfort than the needle sticks (26 of them.) The procedure takes from 6 months to 2 years to run its course in remediating the cancer. Now, I just wait - and stay away from pregnant women.
I had the pastor anoint me in prayer meeting a few weeks ago, and had the elders pray for me. That is the Biblical order for healing. Then the seed implantation is the second step of permitting medical science to work. The third step is believing that the Lord will complete the process. That is my prayer at this time and will continue to be so. But what ever the outcome, I belong to the Lord and am completely His. I choose to trust Him with the outcome. He loves me (and you) and will always do what is best for us, as He sees it in the light of eternity. He is good, all the time.
So much for the news from Nicholasville,
Your brother,

Well, I'm happy to report that Donna got the best news from her doctor's visit yesterday that she has had in what seems like a lifetime. Her pressures were 9 & 10. The tube was open and working like it is suppose too. Her eye is very dry and she has actually sloughed (sp) off tissue due to the dryness so he gave her a bunch of tears to go in every 4 hours. But she can live with that as long as her pressure stays down. Thank the Lord above!!!!

Thanks, Dena, for all the news. Great to hear of some progress. We keep praying for everyone in our family. Would the nurses allow Paul to just play some quiet music for Sis to listen to? THey wouldn't necessarily have to sing, but if she could at least hear it, she would sing along in her soul and mind.
Our weather is in the 70's during the day and cooler at night. We are having a beautiful summer. Wish I had some corn like that to freeze. Alaskans aren't that fortunate. Dale and I are in the middle of building a cedar fence in our back yard this week.
Any word on Donna's visit to Emory?
We are praying for a successful treatment for you, David. Trust there will be no major side effects and that God will physically heal you.
Love to all,

I do not understand what is happening here. I did not post at all, and it threw me off.
Anyway, the nurses are giving Sis physical therapy for two hours at a time twice a day. Paul told Angie they are wearing her out. They have had her sitting up on the side of the bed and moving much more. They take off the pressure boots that prevent blood clots while they do therapy, and put them back on after. That was one thing that aggravated her. She was fighting them and trying to take them off before. They said she is regaining her sense of humor and saying funny things to Paul and the nurses.
You remember that they had to drain her lungs because she had built up fluid and was not strong enough to cough it up? Well when they did the last x-ray, she was clear. They had used a vibrator to break up the congestion, and she is able to cough some.
She is opening her left eye more. The right one is still swollen some. She keeps telling them that she wants to go home. She is not even near going home. Some have been sending cards to their home, and Paul's daughter takes them down periodically for him to read them to her. So until she gets a room, we can do that. Angie said the nurses told her that even when she gets a room, she cannot receive flowers. But she believes she will be able to receive balloons. The hospital just sends flowers back.
Since she is gaining strength and remembering us, it would be good to send cards with short notes. She probably will not remember anything long, but will associate it with us at the time she sees it.
I asked Angie if anyone was singing to her since her pastor did, and she said no, they haven't. I reminded her that music is in her soul, and that it would be marvelous therapy for her. She said she will tell that to Paul.
It was good to talk to Angie again. She and the kids were processing corn for the freezer. They have had lots of rain to keep them cool. She had not heard anything about Ed. I imagine he is running around in his dune buggy even if it is in the rain.
How is Charlie? and Donna? and Harvey? We pray for you all. Love, Berdena

Good afternoon from hot Idaho! (in the 90's)
I just called and talked to Angie since I knew she had been down this last weekend. There are several items of note that show progress. She knew all three of her children and called them by name. She knows Paul's face and that he is her husband, but not much else. She is probably going into her long-term memory. Bill asked her about each one of her brothers and sisters, and she knew all of us, saying something about each one to show she knew. She also remembered Mom.

Good Morning!
Homer and I went down to see Mom Fiskeaux yesterday. She was doing ok. Worried about Lurinda, David, Harvey and Ed, but that is to be expected.
I talked with her about a computer and told her that I would help her learn how to use it so that's something we need to think about. Plus the monthly cost of internet, but we have Wal-Mart.com and only pay $9.98 per month for unlimited service so that could be a way to go.
I ask that you all pray for Donna especially today. Kim is taking her back to Emory today for an appointment. For those who don't know it, she had surgery on her eye 8 weeks ago. They put a 2nd permanent tube in her eye to relieve the pressure and also had to do a cornea tissue transplant to patch a hole in the eye due to all of the surgeries she has had. The last visit which was 2 weeks ago, the tube had not opened up so the pressure was still too high. We are praying for the tube to be open today and the pressure not be too low. She stands a chance of the eye collapsing if the pressure gets too low so it's a fine thread for her and the doctor to walk. The doctor told me the day of the surgery that he's just doing everything he can possibly do to keep some of the optic nerve alive cause he believes there will be a cure for this disease in the future. We did read that a doctor at Harvard has developed a way to regenerate the optic nerve and she is doing that in mice now. That means it's probably 5-10 years away for humans, but it's hope. Also pray for a safe trip for Kim and Donna. We are receiving hard rains as remants of the hurricane.
Well, I better get to work.
Love,
Linda

Good morning! Mom called this morning. She had called and talked to Bill. They had x-rayed Sis's lungs and found fluid on them. She is too weak to cough it up, so they tubed it out. Paul, Bill, and Angie talked to her. Then a little later she did not remember what they had said. She called Paul some funny name and didn't know him. She didn't remember all her brothers and sisters. I guess it will take a while for her brain to recover from all the trauma it has been through. We will keep praying for her.
She has not heard anything from Ed or Zack. It is nasty down there. I do not understand why the plane would even fly into such a storm. They need our prayers, too.

Hello from Nome.
Glad to hear the encouraging reports about Sis.
Praying for you big Charlie.
My shoulder is taking it's own time in healing. Painful. Still doing legal drugs.
God is always good to us, no matter what happens.

I just found out you all were using the chat room here. Charlie and I wondered why we hadn't heard anything more by email!
I suggest you look into a web tv hookup for your mom. She just uses the TV screen and has a keyboard. It is a simple way to do email. That's all I know about it! I have a friend that uses it.
I'm glad things are progressing for Lurinda.
Charlie's seeding procedure will be done on Monday, the 11th.Please keep him in prayer.
God bless.

Mom Fiskeaux just called after talking with Paul. He told her that Lurinda was now able to make sentences and was making sense in what she was saying. Of course, it's still hard to talk but she is improving. The nurse told Paul that she might be moved into a regular room by the middle of next week. At that time, we could start sending cards, flowers, etc. The hospital is the Medical University of Charleston. I'm sure that you could find the address on the web.
Berdena, you mentioned a computer. Ed called this week and he wants to see if some of us can go together and get her a computer for Christmas if not before. He told her that I could teach her to use it and I will be glad to help her out. I would type up step by step instructions for her so that she could get onto the Chat room and talk with her family. She would enjoy it. However, she is going to need at least a 19 - 21" monitor so that she can see it. I would have to change the resolution so that it would be as big as possible. It probably would be easier for her to read than letters. Let me know what you all think about this.

I talked to Mom today. She basically told me what Linda told us, but added that they had to remove some fluid from her lungs that had accumulated because of having had the ventilator tube for so long. She imagined Sis couldn't talk much also because her throat would be so sore from the ventilator tube. Mom is feeling left out of the loop because she doesn't have a computer, and Ed will be leaving. I guess he has been printing out the notes and taking them to her. Wish there were some way we could get her a working used computer. I know she could learn to use it. Hope to hear more from Angie or Bill after this weekend. Thanks for the updates, Linda!

Hi to All
That’s great news about Sissy! Let’s hope there is minimal damage from the stroke or maybe none.
I have closed my facility here for summer vacation (2nd week of July). I have reservations for plane tickets, room and dune buggy for Zack and me in Freeport. Just checked the weather for the hurricane Dennis south of Cuba and its bad. We are supposed to leave from Charlotte at 9:20 AM Saturday to land in Fort Lauderdale by 11:00AM., then over to Freeport by 1:20PM. Wish me luck because everyone is starting to evacuate north and we are headed south. Hope we not stranded at an airport with a class 4 hurricane over us.
Note to Gene from Zack: Zack said you should have ridden the Yamaha to start with. He has a Yamaha 250cc that’s bored .030 over and its “Bad to the Bone”.
Later,
Zack & Ed

Greetings!
I talked with Paul last night. They have now removed the ventilator and did not do the tracheotomy. He said that she is whispering words like yes, no, hope so, etc. Mainly repeating something he says, but she was kind of drugged yesterday. They had given her something for pain to remove the ventilator and the tube which was measuring the pressure in her brain. The doctor told him yesterday that this had been a much slower process than they had all anticipated, but she was slowly improving. So, keep on praying!!
Love,
Linda

This message is for Malinda. It is good to get your news and to hear from you. Can I ask a favor. Could you please put your name in the yellow box where it says Name, just so when we look at the letters, we know it is from YOU. Of course I eventually figure it out, but that would be nice for the rest of us. Thanks. Don't worry about spellings and extra punctuation marks. We still get the idea and it is more important to share news than it is to be so precise.
Love you all,
Frankie

Sorry for the mistake. I thought I could tab down to the message box.
Thanks, Linda, for calling Paul. That is funny about Sis trying to get loose. But I feel for her. You know she is awake and feeling aggravated at the constraints of the tie downs. Do you think she could receive cards yet? And if so, we need her address there at the medical center. I would love to send her one. We talk to each other, but I could talk to her in a card. I know Paul would read them to her.
Gene did well at Spokane last weekend. In the first race Maggie, the Husqvarna, took off well, but stalled on a hill and would not start. It is touchy, but I think it is Gene's favorite. In the second motocross he rode the Yamaha and finished second in the 60+ class. He was jazzed! The wives cheered for all of the guys, because rebuilding an old bike and riding it at their ages (60's, 70's, 80's) is in itself a victory. It was fun.
I have been finding things to do with strawberries and raspberries. The garden is in full production now.
But when we got back from Spokane and went out to pick the sweet cherries, the tree had been stripped! And it was netted. Some say it was birds, but I think someone took advantage of our absence. So no dried sweet cherries in my desk this year. (My last year, I think.)
Gene goes next week on the 14th to the optometrist to see if he needs surgery. He has "floaters" that move around, making it cloudy sometimes for him to see. The doctor told him to wait a few months and see if they would dissolve and go away. But Gene still has them in his sight sometimes. So we will see. I will let you know.
I need sit in front of the air conditioner and shell peas. I love seeing all these letters. Yes, I also will contribute for the pictures. Berdena

Hello all,
I am also in favor of using this chat room more regularly so we can keep in touch as a family. I would pitch in my $10-12 in order to add digital pics. I think if we communicated more as a family we would feel closer to one another. And, Dena, that's a great idea to send around a family letter.
Thank you for keeping us informed about Sissy's progress. Email has been a God-send for all of us and keeps the cost of phone bills down. It helps me know more specifically how to pray for her and how to relay information on to others in our church who are also praying for her.
Hope you all are having a nice summer. I am. The weather here in Eagle River has been beautiful. I am gearing up for a Wilderness Women 26 mile hike across Crow Pass (a mountain pass close to my home). It will be a 4 day backpacking hike over a mountain, fording a river (Yikes), eluding the bear, and making it safely back home. We carry in everything on our backs. Since I have never done this before, I am hiking up a steep climb close to my home about every other day to try and get myself in shape. (2.5 miles). I love the outdoors and I especially love the mountains of Alaska. This hike will take place on July 22-25. Pray for our safety and a great time with about 10 other women. This is a common hiking trail so it has been accomplished many times and many do it in 1-2 days. We're stretching it out a bit so it should be easy to manage.
Love,
Frankie

This is a great space to utilize and we should be doing so. According to CII, it would cost a little over a $100 a year to upgrade the site to allow downloading of pictures. How many would be willing to chip in and pay for this. If all 10 kids forked over the funds, it would only be between $10-12 a year. We could give up enough sodas for that much!
I talked with Paul again last night. He said that they did not remove the ventilator yesterday, but might do so today; however, they are at this point and time planning on putting in a tracheotomy just in case she needs assistance in breathing. He relayed an event to me which I thought was rather funny and typical "Fiskeaux". He said that she is showing signs of wanting that tube out bad. Her hands are strapped down and have been ever since the surgery to keep her from trying to pull out any tubes. On the 4th, she physically raised her head and shoulders up trying to reach her hands so that she could pull the ventilator out. He said she almost had it. They had to shorten the straps on her hands. I told him that they didn't know who they were dealing with and that she is a Fiskeaux and they have determination.
Take care,
Homer & Linda

I think posting news on this site is a great idea! Anyone wishing to know the latest can just check for it. No need for e-mail addresses. Anyone with news just let us know. Is anyone keeping track of all who agree so we can count the vote?
I have also been wondering . . . why don't we take turns telling what is going on in our families, maybe a page or so of news. I could start, hand off to Charlie, who would hand off to Sis's family, etc. In 10 weeks we would hear from each one and keep in touch more than we ordinarily do. Any children or in-laws would also be welcome to add news at any time, but especially on their family's week. What do you think?

I talked with Paul last night, July 4th. He said that Lurinda had had a good day. She had not responded any yesterday, but he felt it was because they had given her something to keep her quiet since the hospital was short-staffed due to the holiday. He expects them to remove the ventilator today. The nurse had told him that they would wait until the Respiratory Therapy dept was back up to full staff and that would be today. Let's all say a special prayer that she will be able to come off and stay off of the ventilator!
Love,

This is a pretty good chat board but it don't seem to be getting much traffic. This might be the place to update everyone about Sissy's recovery. I would be willing to pitch in for the upgrade for pics.
